At least 3 years since they were first promised Crossrail has now released its provisional ideas for rebuilding Ealing Broadway Station. The new station will have a major impact on Haven Green and we are studying the plans with interest.
Our initial feeling is disappointment with the design which we feel to be quite out of keeping with the character of the surrounding Conservation Areas. The new station will create a very underwhelming first impression for arriving visitors.
So far the Council has stayed silent on its ideas for the reconfiguring the land around the station to accommodate the new station - particularly what will happen to Haven Green. Crossrail provides a great opportunity to restore the Green to create an attractive area of leisure space at the heart of the town centre. Careful planning, involving the whole community is needed to achieve this, and the Friends of Haven Green looks forward to participating in this exercise.
The forecourt which is currently parking will be pedestrianised to allow better pedestrian flow in and out of the station.
As part of this project, Ealing council are proposing improvements and changes to the traffic, bicycle and pedestrian flow around and across Haven Green.
