Electricity Substation now in Crossrail Compound

The Electricity substation - which the plaaning Inspector ruled should be removed - has now been included in the Crossrail Compound and is being used to provide power for it.

Ealing Council state that Crossrail are bound to remove it at the end of their works - but have no written agreement to that effect.

FoHG is working to ensure that the area is restored to how it was previously.

Ealing Council submits planning application for retention of Electricity sub-station on Haven Green

Haven Green before the sub-station

Ealing Council has submitted a planning application to the Planning Inspectorate for the retention of the Electricity sub-station on Haven Green.

The sub-station was originally installed to proved power for the now-defunct ice rink.  On appeal, the planning permission was limited to 5 years.

Ealing council have now applied for temporary planning permission for 25 years!

The sub-station was one of the areas of encroachment that Friends of Haven Green have been arguing against.

How can 25 years be temporary?

Our reponse

We have a number of queries and objections to this application. We list the queries below and follow with the objections.

QUERIES

We believe that some of the factual statements on the application are incorrecet and not in line with the decisions of the previous temporary planning decision.  We have asked for clarification and corrections.

PLANS.

The plans being used are 2008 versions and so do not include recent incursions into the Green such as the cycle hub and 'temporary' cycle racks.

OBJECTIONS

  • The substation is not visually attractive and restricts the view of Haven Green from shops and cafes
  • The screen planting is out of keeping with the rest of the Green, and further restricts views of Haven Green
  • 25 years has already been refused by the previous enquiry
  • The substation is not needed by recreationsal activities as the council suggest. There is no information on the "Ealing Love your space", nor have Friends of Haven Green been consulted on any such events as would be normal.
  • Ealing Council should desist from the policy of making piecemeal incursions into Haven Green.
  • We believe all encroachments should be considered by one enquiry.
